BlipTalk with JE DEVIENS DJ EN 3 JOURS

9

Je Deviens DJ en 3 Jours wanted to create powerful romantic pop, but ever since seeing the Nullsleep Street Performance video he just makes repetitive binary loops on Nanoloop 1.3. He took it upon himself to be more melodic by creating a new superhero dressed in black leather : The Mini-Nullsleep. Using his lazer light eyes, JDDJ3J draws unique waveforms on the Nintendo Gameboy and Nintendo Famicom in order to see what those little guys can do.  Watch out! If you’re a girl you might get a supernova kiss.

Blip: Before you got into making chip music, what type of music or art where you into?

I was writing sentimental songs about nature.

Here is an example : Saules Pleureurs

Blip: How did you first become aware of the possibility of chip music?

I found an interview of some french guys called Teamtendo saying that they are not using “Nanoloop“. I wrote the word in Google.

Blip: How does your background influence your current work?

I mostly write clubbing danceable songs based on the potential of the S-channel of Nanoloop but i’m almost only listening to VGM. Even if I look like a hipster, I’m not really into the French touch movement. I don’t want my music to be only the chiptune side of it.

In other words, my music became naturally like that. Nanoloop is an abstract software. it’s more about expressing feelings than programming sequences.

Blip: Where do you see yourself in the greater chip community?

In the early days of JDDJ3J, I discovered 8bitcollective with its artists tracking as fast and melodic as Sabrepulse. I realized that it wasn’t a race I wanted to run, so I began to experiment with waveforms and live manipulations of the loops.

I love finding sounds in the gameboy. When the audience doesn’t get that you are playing on a gameboy, it’s a success.

All things considered, I could be the Tom Morello of the community.

Blip: Who are you most excited to see at blip? Why?

Disasterpeace : please dedicate me “Jump Error” !

Blip: Where do you see your progression as an artist heading? Deeper into chip music, or perhaps something different?

During 2009, I forgot the basic simple pleasures of life. Therefore, I just offered to myself an American Standard Stratocaster.

Last but not least, my next EP will be released soon on Bleepstreet Records. I completely disintegrated new nanoloop songs and reworked the different elements with an another point of view. With this minimalist EP, I’m far from the pure chiptunes I’m playing live and it’s a deliberated choice.
